Spacious and round. It’s the curves that make Bao appealing on first sight. A sumptuous sculpture with an artistic back. In the style of a leather ball, the leather patchwork forms the rear. Flowing lines – sweeping and elegant. The swivelling armchair combines the materials whilst keeping them distinct: leather on the back, fabric in the seat. Everything has its place. Bao – as familiar as a welcoming embrace.

The TG2 chair, designed by Thore Garbers for Wilde + Spieth, was spotted at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York.

The chair is made of fibreglass, its wide and continuous folds flow, to maximise body contact. Natural rubbers or leathers, in a range of colour combinations, are overlaid to create a chair that is equally appropriate for external or internal environments.

Thore Garbers’ career spans not only architecture, furniture and product design, but also extends to include work in opera and film. Garbers, born in 1971, was for many years associated as a designer with Daniel Libeskind where he was responsible for realising such significant international cultural projects as the extension to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), Toronto, and the Serpentine Summer Pavilion, London UK. He was also responsible for winning major international competitions and commissions for the Studio, particularly in the USA and Asia. Garbers and Libeskind co-directed and designed sets and costumes for the Deutsche Oper, Berlin, as one of a number of operatic collaborations in Germany. In 2005 they jointly taught a theoretical unit at the renowned HSG Business School in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Garbers has now formed his own Studio in London UK “Garbers & James” which holds commissions from major public international cultural institutions, private clients and the continuing development of a number of product designs. In this context he has also started his contribution to the WILDE+SPIETH product development.

Philippe Starck’s Privé Collection of furniture, designed for Cassina USA, offers “great comfort and a variety of solutions”—and here “solutions” is code for never having to get up.

Privé includes armchairs, sofas, chaise lounges, ottomans, and most importantly, islands. Yes, islands large and small. With fixed and adjustable armrests (these double as headrests, I assure you, as well as convenient locations to rest one’s drink). Cassina USA claims that with Prive “nothing is forbidden”—and I am already devising all manner of sinful activities that the furniture might enable (drawings to come later). Described as “provocative and ironic,” the Privé Collection gives you all the sloth without any of the guilt.

The polished aluminum structure and quilted leather upholstery elevate languor to an activity reserved for those at the pinnacle of society, so that idleness conveniently becomes the height of urban sophistication. Padding is available in different densities, and backrests are removable—all the more reason to get creative with one’s dilatoriness. Leather strips along the base and leather hand-straps on the back cushions only increase the ardent desire to self-indulge. Should absinthe regain the popularity it rightly deserves, Privé might be the perfect piece for the modern-day drinker of wormwood. The Green Fairy might in fact be the ideal mascot for the Privé island.

But Privé does not have to be a sordid affair. The various configurations lend themselves well to other activities. In black, the Privé couch is great for the patients of traditional psychoanalysis. In white, the Privé chair is a good option for enjoying simple pleasures: listening to music, reading a novel, ignoring one’s spouse. Thanks to Philippe Starck for reinvigorating laziness—and dressing it up in such finery.

Natuzzi’s Sound Armchair is a tempting, other-side-of-the-aesthetic-spectrum alternative to the vintage retro appeal of Sound Chairs like the iBall.

With a pair of expertly hidden speakers at just the right height, a similarly inconspicuous mp3 minijack, and an ergonomic pillow-ette that props the listening head just so, one could make the case that Natuzzi’s Sound chair is the luxury-pc response to Mac’s hipster iBall. Internecine squabbling aside, this chair’s principal merit is the classical appeal of Natuzzi leather. “Inspired by the pursuit of beauty and quality since 1959,” Italy’s Natuzzi is known the world over for a premium product made of an enduring material.

Tactfully evoking the virtues of leather, Natuzzi speaks to us of boundless variety: “the total color assortment changes constantly and exceeds 150 different leather colors. Some are thicker, some are thinner, and some have a second color added for effect, some are embossed, while others are smooth.” They’re also quick to dispel some convenient myths: “leather conforms to its environment. It adapts to the temperature of a room or of your body, and will maintain a consistent temperature that will feel good to your skin.” And they make no bones about their chairs’ durability: “we use an engineered frame that is a combination of solid woods such as fir/spruce or beech with plywood, OSB, particle board, and a Masonite wrap. The suspension uses the elastic webbing system that is completely durable, and 100% resilient that, over time, will out last any spring type of construction.” Coupling ageless aesthetic appeal to long-life and myriad variations on a theme, Natuzzi’s Sound chair makes momentous music indeed.

The Bastard is a combination of two only to become one non.

“It find it routs in the production methods and materials of furniture company. Even though his looks on first glans don’t seem to have anything to do with the company and seem to be only derived from me the opposite is actually true.”

“As i developed a method to create a chair with the leftover trash leather from the factory. Factually the shapes from the leftover pieces decide the shape of the chair. As the tehnique of stitching the pieces together follows the outlines of the leftovers.”

“The seed planted by the production methodes with the nurture and care from me becomes the BASTARD.”

After presenting you the Globus Chair designed by Stefano Bigi and produced by La Cividina, the moment came to present you another interesting creating of Stefano Bigi: Molecule!

Molecule is modular seating with a minimalist feel that can come with or without tables and a variety of cushions. The seats are a wooden frame upholstered with non-deformable polyurethane foam with polyester fibre and the cover will be either fabric or leather. The possibilities are exhaustive when you think of the uses for this furniture.

Molecule can complete perfectly a modern restaurant or even a club but at the same time it can be the missing element from your living room or from any chilling space that needs a modern touch. It can be used for a tea party, for a normal party or even just for a coffee with friends. Enjoy!

BATTI, one of the most important young and upcoming designers in Argentina took the idea of the uterus as an icon and created this chair. Placentero is meant to hold people and give them the possibility to connect with themselves by allowing free movements and positions within the chair.

The name comes from combining two words: Placenta + Pleasure = Placentero. Sinking into this innovative womb like chair feels great. It lets you stretch or curl up, while hugging and rocking you around.

Placentero has a very modern feel with a smooth, sleek fiberglass outer shell and soft tailored leather interior offered in a variety of color options. I thought of different spaces that could benefit from the sophisticated fun this unique, over sized and futuristic looking chair offers – lounges, break rooms, media rooms, bedrooms, playrooms for kids and grown-ups, or best of all outside on a grassy patch.

Placentero can be ordered as an outdoors version and has a matching footstool. Whether we leave this sculptural chair inside or take it outside, it’s sure to make anybody who sits in it wiggle and giggle in style.
