Blake Studios

Manufactured in bulk or crafted individually by hand; $10 a square foot or triple digits; the variety of Ann Sacks products extends beyond pure aesthetics (or emotions for that matter). The three-dimensional, burnt red Dahlia tiles by Blake Studio were introduced at K/BIS and on view recently at the National Kitchen and Bath Association’s convention in Atlanta. Potentially the most iconic of Ann Sacks’ new designs, these bold tiles have not surprisingly received the majority of press attention. Designed to be composed into dramatic, show-stopping murals, they epitomize the concept of tile as art. Each is made by hand using the age-old Italian technique of Sgraffato, “to scratch,” so it is not surprising that their price-point is more in line with one-of-a-kind art than standard tile. Another dramatic gesture with an equally impressive price-tag ($665/square foot), the mosaic from the Beau Monde Collection creates a wall of billowing roses with each petal as its own individual tile. The mosaic style is inspired by the ancient mosaic art form of Pietre Dura although Beau Monde but presents a fresh and updated graphic interpretation of this elaborate imagery.

Robert Kuo Carved Stone

Robert Kuo Carved Stone is inspired by traditional Chinese craftsmanship and motifs alongside design elements of Western European Art Deco. Han Bai Yu (Chinese White Marble) and Qing Shi (Chinese Black Marble), fine marbles found in the Hebei Province of China are carved using a chisel and hammer to create intricate designs and finished by with grinding tools used in the traditional jade-carving technique. This same method was once used to carve pieces for Buddhist temples. Vernacular inspirations define the Bali Collection, a unique standing pebble for vertical surfaces available with flooring pebbles in matching colors. The neutral colors and simple forms create a textural surface that can feel simultaneously modern and historic.

Ann Sacks

From the bold and dramatic Dahlia mural and the glamorous billowing rose mosaic to the Chinese-inspired carved marble and vernacular-driven pebble surfaces, Ann Sacks seeks to address the movements in design, color and form throughout history. Although you’re likely driven to one more than the others, the quality of each design is worthy of appreciation.

The surprising mix between classic and contemporary captures enduringly popular details of design and brings them totally up to date. Straightforward geometrical shapes make up the bathroom cabinets in black, white, iris and pink lacquered finishes, as well as polished rosewood. In contrast to their solid contemporary forms, the cabinets feature stunning decorative elements in luxurious chrome and gold satin finishes. Handles, legs, and accessories (such as mirrors and rails) are made up of soft, stylized scrolls. This will appeal to those who like to neatly file away items, keeping them close to hand, but out of sight. Unique 123 is a geometrical, stunning bathroom in Imperial Red and metallic. Collection Atmosfera…

Atmosfera, gives back to the bathroom a unique and innovative look because of it’s smooth and statuesque shape characterized by dynamic outlines that are chasing into an incessant formal game. Atmosfera is realized in multi-layer bended wood which is characterized by an extremely modern and dynamic design which alternates curved lines and asymmetrical and inclined profiles. The collection is integrated with Luce washbasin realized with the same colour, the chest of drawers, the shelves and the back-lit mirror.

Collection Prisma…

Prisma, similar to a modern stone sculpture, it blends harmoniously soft and pointed shapes. Realized with Moon stone it’s washbasin is characterized by a triangular outline, strongly reduced upward, marked by soft vertical twists. The peculiarity of the collection is the possibility to ensure many graphic and space compositions by turning and bringing the two basins together.

Collection Ocean…

Ocean is a sculptural washbasin which reminds the wave movement in its shape. Realized in two different sizes and colours (shiny black and shiny white) it has the distinctiveness to be easily assembled on a line or at 90° edges following the wall corners. Ocean is realized in Tecnoform a shiny acrylic resin very similar to ceramic and it is resistant towards scratches and breaking.

Collection Ebano…

Ebano, as a block of wood carved from the water, it’s a modern and sophisticated washbasin that is perfectly compatible with any bathroom. Realized in Rainwood stone it’s a washbasin with linear and squared external forms; internally the soft curvature of the hole is designed to enhance the wonderful vein of the stone that recalls for colour and form the essence of wood. The collection is integrated with over counter washbasins and concealed washbasins, shower tray and solid bathtub.

Naos Collection from NeaBath

The Naos vanities from Neabath have a theatrical flair and aplomb all of their own. Instantly noticeable, the stunning handles in silver or gold finishes punctuate the formality of the vanities with a dramatic exclamation. Stately but never boring, the Naos comes in a wide range of colors, from shocking pink to glossy black, to complement a modern palette. You can choose just one color, or a vanity with a contrasting top and bottom edge. Either way, they look great against the background of walls with moulded edgings and details, as shown here. Neabath, is an Italian company based in Bologna that seeks to redefine space with fashion and elegance.

Klimti Collection from NeaBath

The new Klimti is a straightforward vanity from Neabath with a well-dressed twist. The low, rectangular form is wall-mounted and completely uninterrupted by handles. However, the front panels of the Klimti modern bathroom vanity feature a gorgeous floral motif. Outstanding against its plain background, you can opt for a contrasting or complementary pattern of flowers. It depends on you… the white version is discreet and pure; the black and gold version is chic and sophisticated. A practical indulgence, theses vanities have plenty of storage space. Also, there is space for two sinks if you so desire.

Dedalo, Icarus and Sappho Vanities from Edone

Reflecting the contemporary trend of ‘fusion’ within popular culture, Edone (Agoragroup) releases the new Dedalo, Icarus and Sappho vanities. Each with its own flair, these modern vanities are a reaction to the current worldly outlook of the fashionable consumer. With tops in precious marble and signature feet in gold or silver leaf, the vanity collection is a high-end range. The Dedalo has a substantial presence reminiscent of an art deco piece. Characterised by heavy curves it boasts a chic finish in combinations of black, gold, white, silver and scarlet. Icarus is a vanity with poise – a linear and luxurious piece of furniture. Sappho is a lower, longer vanity with a minimalist feel, shown here in a gorgeous dark finish. All available now from Edone (Agoragroup) – these modern vanities are Italian style inspired by the world.

Etage consists of three coffee tables in different colors and sizes. At first glance, they appear to almost hover above the floor. The three table tops protrude in different directions like balconies, revealing their underlying architectural inspiration: the table is a mini-building without walls—a building under construction. The different levels create spaces for magazines and remote control devices.

Each table features one strong color and two muted colors. Bright green, pink, and orange tones are combined with more muted shades of blue, beige, and brown. The color inspiration comes from the team’s many trips to South America and Spain for lecturing and teaching engagements. The colors of the Etage tables are an interesting combination of a muted Scandinavian palette, and more intense colors that are almost drawn from a folk art tradition.

About Hannah…

Though a city girl by birth, Hannah found great inspiration in the countryside when she studied ‘Crafts’ at Carmarthen college in West Wales. There she stayed for many years, raising her two small children, sketching and drawing in the fields and woodland and gathering her ideas.

When her children became of school age she moved back up North settling in Hebden Bridge, a buzzing creative town, between Manchester and her hometown of Leeds. The perfect mix! Close to the city but with an abundance of nature, moments from the front door!

She joined Northlight Studio, then situated at the top of an old textile mill with wide views across the valley. There she found the support and inspiration to introduce her work to the wider world. She made a range of paper cut greetings cards which made it to Libertys, Harrods, Paperchase  and many beautiful craft galleries across the country.

How she found inspiration…

Whilst holding her paper cuts up to the light to enjoy the silhouettes they created, the idea of making lamps and lampshades seemed the next exciting step.

The Arts Council supported the idea with a Research and Development grant and months were spent cutting, sticking, thinking and sketching until the first Hannah Nunn lamp was born!

Six years later Hannah’s lamps can be found in around seventy lovely shops and galleries up and down the UK. She continues to make new designs, constantly inspired by the natural world, refining her hand cutting technique and employing fantastic laser cutting technology for exquisite delicacy (and to ease her cutting arm!). She enjoys keeping an artists blog about her work, inspiration and development.

She now works from her studio at her dazzling studio/shop Radiance in Hebden Bridge. Enthralled and inspired by the work of other makers working with light, she thought it would make a beautiful glowing space if she brought them all together so in 2005 she opened Radiance and did just that! Here you can see Hannahs whole collection on display as well as lighting by around twenty other designers and makers.

Fletcher & Myburgh

Both artists have been led by their desire for a natural and organic lifestyle and by choosing precious recycled metals they’ve achieved a just this. By drawing inspiration from the terrains in which they both grew up, rolling hills and curving lanes, heat and sunshine, the passion for form is evident.
