The Hug Chair was designed by Gabriella Asztalos.

About the Designer – Gabriella Asztalos

Gabriella Asztalos was born in Budapest, grew up and studied all over Europe. She designed the “Hug Chair” in Barcelona where she was finishing her studies. Gabriella was a professional classical ballet dancer before her design studies. Hence she is inspired by human body and human movements.

Coming from a classical ballet background Gabriella exactly knows how to express emotions, feelings or a state of mind through body forms, shapes or movements.

The design of the Hug Chair also emerged from a human movement.

“My conceptional model is a “Hug”.

With the Hug Chair I tried to translate an intimate social interaction into an exclusive furniture design…

When we hug, our arms are creating a spiral form. I am using this spiral as the base of my design.

I opened up a hug and concentrated only on one of the participant’s arms.

I kept the spiral form as a symbol of hugging arms, turned it 90° facing down to the floor and placed it on a 35cm high turning leg which provides more flexibility and easier access to the chair.

I am also focusing not only on the shape, but on the intimacy of a hug. The experience one accumulates from sitting in the Hug Chair resembles to the feelings of a hug; affection, warmth, care, support, comfort, trust, love. The chair delivers these same feelings across its unique and powerful uni-body design.”

About the Hug Chair

The “HUG CHAIR” is an exclusive furniture design which combines the original spiral shape and the values of a hug.

A unique uni-body circular structure connects both seats together allowing two people to sit face-to-face and thus creating an immediate intimate interaction.Through this physical connection, you feel socially and emotionally connected with the person sitting on the other side. The upper “half-pipe” which bends above the heads creates a highway of thoughts and a chain of emotions. In this way you are interconnected in the same circle and the focus is always on the other person, exactly what a hug is about.

The Hug Chair is a unique eye catching design with high comfort factor, contemporary features, emotional appearance, practicability, durability and sustainable quality. Its face-to-face interaction allows you to break away instantly from the crowd. The exceptional shape of the Hug Chair creates, even in large and crowded rooms or halls, an immediate, safe and intimate ambience for those who desire space for a private moment.

Foremost, the chair is a beautiful masterpiece. Its remarkable aesthetics make it a desired item. Consumers are not simply buying a chair. They are buying a statement where design and intimacy come together.

Admin’s Opinion about the product

The Hug Chair is without wonders a great furniture piece suitable for all sorts of interiors. The ergonomic and appealing design with a great modern touch make this chair a perfect addition not only to an office but also to any room in which you need a multifunctional piece of furniture for relaxing purposes and not only.

An ergonomically designed floating ‘inner tube’ for fishing and an indoor rocking chair for reading, the Pastil Chair is a multi-tasking masterpiece.

It is the second in line of Aarnio’s iconic plastic creations which echo the pop culture and spirit of their time, debuted in 1967, after the Ball Chair (presented at the International Furniture Fair Cologne 1966), and prior to the Bubble Chair (1968). Through these pieces (amongst others), Aarnio explored the possibilities of the new material plastic while remaining true to the Scandinavian design tradition of quality and durability.

The product shape comes from a small lozenge, a ‘pastil’. The idea was that “a lot of empty, cushioned space is sent to the other side of the world inside the Ball Chair. A new round chair would fit in this space, and so the diameter of the Pastil chair is the same as the opening of the ball chair.” Aarnio made the first prototype out of polystytrene to verify the measurements, ergonomics and rocking ability. A year after completing its design, he received the American Industrial Design Award (1968) for the Pastil Chair – and The New York Times described it and the Ball Chair as “the most comfortable forms to hold up the human body”.

From the Ball chair Aarnio designed the Bubble Chair – an adaptation or ‘improvement’ of its design. Similarly, Aarnio designed the Tomato chair to improve upon the design of the Pastil chair. Aarnio explains, “I realized that Pastil Chair floats and carries the person who sits in it in water but it is very rickety. If there were three items like two great armrests and the back of the chair would be stable, and this is how the idea of the Tomato Chair was born.”

Well known for his innovative furniture designs in the 1960s, notably his plastic and fiberglass chairs, Aarnio’s work is iconic and the Pastil chair is no exception. Designed to be viewed from many angles, it’s best as a free-standing piece rather than being hidden in a corner. Bold, shiny and colorful – it adds a bit of fun to any environment.

Deadgood’s principals Dan Ziglam and Elliot Brook announce themselves in a genial, if confident, manner: “Hello,” says their website’s homepage, “We are deadgood and everything we do is deadgood.”

That assertion may remain to be seen, but if their recent Capsule Collection is any indication, there’s a high probability of excellent product herein. Ziglam and Brook founded the company in 2004 after finishing studies at the UK’s Northumbria University. Their stated aim is to “offer an excellence in design and an uncompromising commitment to quality… exploring and experimenting with new materials and manufacturing processes whilst simultaneously expressing our distinct personalities.” The Capsule pieces give the truth to this objective. With enthusiastic approbation from none other than The Sunday Times (“as much fun as chewing a flying saucer while bouncing on a space hopper”), these furnishings announce themselves to the globosphere with a fortuitous synthesis of daring, whimsy, and retro panache.

The central metaphor of the collection is that of the capsule—that pervasive icon of 50s and 60s kitschy paranoia. But beyond providing a fun and engaging cultural point of reference, the capsule shape makes for an ergonomic and comfortable profile. All the better to decorate the landscape of this sofa, chair, and kick stool with an assortment of differently-sized, -shaped, and -colored buttons.

“We developed the design of the weft of threads as a “connecting dots” game, looking for a ergonomic radius seating. The result is the 540 milimeters radius (~22 inches). We developed a contemporary product, but with a strong emotional interaction. This kind of threads were part of our childhood in the garden seats of the interior of Brazil. This nostalgic reference is evident in this product.”

Natuzzi’s Sound Armchair is a tempting, other-side-of-the-aesthetic-spectrum alternative to the vintage retro appeal of Sound Chairs like the iBall.

With a pair of expertly hidden speakers at just the right height, a similarly inconspicuous mp3 minijack, and an ergonomic pillow-ette that props the listening head just so, one could make the case that Natuzzi’s Sound chair is the luxury-pc response to Mac’s hipster iBall. Internecine squabbling aside, this chair’s principal merit is the classical appeal of Natuzzi leather. “Inspired by the pursuit of beauty and quality since 1959,” Italy’s Natuzzi is known the world over for a premium product made of an enduring material.

Tactfully evoking the virtues of leather, Natuzzi speaks to us of boundless variety: “the total color assortment changes constantly and exceeds 150 different leather colors. Some are thicker, some are thinner, and some have a second color added for effect, some are embossed, while others are smooth.” They’re also quick to dispel some convenient myths: “leather conforms to its environment. It adapts to the temperature of a room or of your body, and will maintain a consistent temperature that will feel good to your skin.” And they make no bones about their chairs’ durability: “we use an engineered frame that is a combination of solid woods such as fir/spruce or beech with plywood, OSB, particle board, and a Masonite wrap. The suspension uses the elastic webbing system that is completely durable, and 100% resilient that, over time, will out last any spring type of construction.” Coupling ageless aesthetic appeal to long-life and myriad variations on a theme, Natuzzi’s Sound chair makes momentous music indeed.

Both artists have been led by their desire for a natural and organic lifestyle and by choosing precious recycled metals they’ve achieved a just this. By drawing inspiration from the terrains in which they both grew up, rolling hills and curving lanes, heat and sunshine, the passion for form is evident. The result is uber chic pieces of copper and fire that work with all the elements, come rain or shine.

Fletcher & Myburgh’s magical mood swings draw their inspiration from nature and the world of fantasy and wonderment.

The Fletcher & Myburgh Swing Collection contains seven awesome types of swings as it follows:

Jasmin Swing

The classic Jasmin swing is the most delicate of Fletcher and Myburgh’s mystical swings. Its twisted curls of wrought iron create a blissful hanging retreat that let’s you just go with the flow. The best thing about this swing is that although it looks delicate it can carry more than one, so pile in, share abedtime story, escape or just float.

Imagine being able to climb into a tree and become a part of it. Twist yourself in scents of Jasmin and just float for a while? Sounds good doesn’t it? Well imagine no longer. The classic Jasmin swing is the most delicate of Fletcher and Myburgh’s mystical swings. Its twisted curls of wrought iron create a blissful hanging retreat that let’s you just go with the flow. Climb into the wicker basket, curl up in the Indian Silk cushions and swing magically in the breeze. No oak tree in town? Don’t worry as the Jasmin weighs in at just 45kg, a small apple tree is perfect too. If you’ve fallen in love with the Jasmin but have no trees or outside space, fear not…it’s also possible to buy a stand, alternatively wall brackets, beams and conservatory roofs are frequently used.

Bubble Swing

The Bubbles swing is the ultimate tree accessory for anyone wishing to float away in the privacy of his or her own garden. One of the more recent designs, it fuses a modern eclectic circular design with delicate stainless steel metal work. Can you imagine clambering into your own private bauble? Imagine no longer as here it is and after a very rock and roll journey too! Have you ever just wanted to run off and hide in your own bubble, escape from the rat race and return to a childlike freedom in a, well, grown up way? Well you can and all with a very stylish and ephemeral twist!

The Bubbles swing is the ultimate tree accessory for anyone wishing to float away in the privacy of their own garden! These swings not only form a permanent art fixture in your garden but are also the ultimate rock and roll party accessory.

Mypod Swing

The most adventurous creation to date this swing is not only an architectural triumph but also a visionary
masterpiece. Sitting in this piece gives you a feeling of utter escape both in movement and sound. The newest member of the mood family its ridges of pure golden copper encircle you and you’ll find the swing magically turning itself into an acoustic cocoon.

In ridges of pure golden copper that encircle you, the swing turns itself into an acoustic cocoon. Not only is it an architectural and visionary masterpiece it also gives you the sense of utter escape both in movement and sound. When you climb into this swing and sink into the bed of cushions inside you enter a world that totally envelopes you…a throwback to the moment you feel the sensation of hearing your favourite song, smell a childhood memory or escape in your head to a tropical beach.

Ostara Swing

Suspended from either a tree or the circular stand, the Ostara swing is the ultimate swing for two. Nestled inside you can escape the elements and really curl up in its beaten copper walls. The two tone effect looks stunning as an art piece but even better with company – a seductive copper cocoon, which lets you go with the flow.

Moon Swing

With its gorgeous full and half moon feel, detailed copper lining and blissful comfort this piece provides total escape, a quiet place to rest away from everyday life. Hang it beneath the bows of a huge tree at the bottom of a garden, amongst the woods or in an open space from one of the specially made frames.

Pumpkin Swing

The pumpkin swing allows you to climb in and sit within its gorgeous copper ridges ensuring the perfect hidey-hole feel. A wonderful enclosed space has been created in its walls and with extras like a 12-volt light, shaped windows and a secret music box at your fingertips – it really is the smashing pumpkin of the swing world. What’s more, you don’t have to keep it to yourself…

Phi-ton The Bed, innovative in technique and so minimalistic that it seems to be floating.

A new living environment, to be adjusted to your personal wishes and the mood of the moment. The multiple award winning design brings timeless elegance into your bedroom. Advanced, patented technology is invisibly incorporated.

Timeless design and a luxurious finish make the Phi-ton bed a jewel in every bedroom. Floating without a sub-frame, with sophisticated lines, the Phi-ton bed always shows its best side.

The bed – the main source for a sense of wellbeing in any desired space. Made possible through a technique that really spoils you. No visual limitations due to power cords. All you have to see of the intelligent, self-correcting adjustment is the remote control, which also operates the optional massage function.

Room for individuality. Whether set up in the basic horizontal position or in one of countless other positions: Phi-ton The Bed always distinguishes itself with its floating design. Therefore, one Phi-ton bed should not have to look like any other: with different feet and contemporary fabrics in various colours, you can personalize the appearance of your bed.

The Phi-ton bed offers unlimited possibilities for individual freedom and comfort. Perfect adjustability to the personal desires and physical characteristics of every user. Whether you want to sleep, relax, read, watch TV or snuggle up, the variety of possible positions is only limited by the laws of ergonomics. Phi-ton beds are also available with Phi-ton 3D-mattresses that have beneficial massage functions built in. The ultimate way to relax, simply lie down and enjoy. And if you fall asleep – this is no problem, the massage ends automatically after 15 minutes.

Leather furniture always manages to make an impact with the discerning consumer. The Slink Chair is no different with its punctilious tailored look, its comfortable ergonomics, and dramatic styling.

Designed by Rob Jones, the chair at first glance appears deceptively simple. However, prod a little further and the designer’s unique sensibility comes to the forefront. The hammock-style design is not coincidental, as this chair seeks to bring a hint of quirkiness to a structured environment. The diamond-stitched pattern and buttonless tufting takes center stage and gives a nod to old design principles. Since the chair has been constructed from high-density, high-resiliency foam and boasts of an all hardwood frame with metal legs, to doubt its durability might seem like an exercise in futility.

The Slink Chair measures 36” w X 40” d X 35” h and apart from leather can also be upholstered in ultra suede. Like all American Leather products, the Slink can also be customized according to the client’s desires. Hence be it lashings of bright pinks or the more placid monochromatic tones, the Slink can be conjured up in any color tone.

When it comes to chairs, functionality should always supersedes style. Fortunately these days, consumers don’t have to chose one over the other as a good chair is not only interminable, but also stresses on innovation, durability and aesthetics.

Polish company IKER has a high the preoccupation for ergonomics. Their Pop System embodies proper body alignment while using light materials and modern forms. In particular, the Pop 40 (not to be confused with Top 40, though perhaps equal in popularity) is a great example of IKER’s body-conscious proportions.

At 31.5”W x 31.5”D x 29.5”H, the Pop 40 is comfortable and functional—and it swivels. We simply have to admit, there is nothing quite like a swivel chair. It’s the perfect chair for people with small spaces and for those with great rooms; it’s also the perfect chair for indecisive people and for people with a penchant for rearranging furniture.

The metal frame features a rotating base (the locus of the swivel) on four legs from which the chair itself seems to rise in a subtle undulation—it reminds me of a calla lily. The top of Pop 40 rises to hug the head, therefore keeping the neck in good alignment. Since Pop 40 can be upholstered in leather, Alcantara, or premium fabrics, it can go from office to living room, satisfying everyone. Alcantara, by the way, is the original composite fabric invented by the Japanese scientist Miyoshi Okamoto in the 1970s (not to be confused with the regular ultrasuede). As I see it, the Pop 40 might be the new Director’s Chair—the high back lending an air of authority. IKER claims that design “comments on cultural events” . I think the Pop 40 is commenting on the dearth of good films nowadays, waiting to be inhabited by the next great mind.

The regular Translation Armchair is fully recyclable, since it’s made from rotational molded low-density polyethylene. It’s also UV-resistant, making it a truly indoor/outdoor piece of furniture, able to resist temperatures from - 60°C to +50°C and provided with a water drainage hole.

Designed by the designer Alain Gilles, the Translation Armchair pays close attention to ergonomics, the shape cradling the user most assuredly—perhaps too many days at the office in uncomfortable chairs (and restrictive suits) inspired Gilles.

Qui est Paul?, the design company that carries the chair, describes it as nothing less than an experience: “A comfortable armchair suggesting an appeasing experience either on the terrace or inside your home or office.” They are French and may be using English oddly, but that makes the Translation Armchair that much more perfect, since a quirky translation serves to describe it. The Translation Chair is concerned with curvature, making use of sinuous arcs, instead of hard lines, that refuse to abruptly break the top and bottom of the chair. Instead, its design and material enable it to be one seamless entity.

Qui est Paul? has partnered with Les Bouchons D’Amour (the corks of love), an organization that collects plastic corks and resells them to recyclers, with profits benefiting the disabled, to create a limited-edition Translation Armchair (100 only). The numbered Translations are made of 70% recycled bottle caps. It is fitting too that this edition is made from round objects, making the Limited Translation Armchair round all around, from its initial material to the final product. Not to mention that the process of using recycled materials is in itself a cycle, again emphasizing the Translation Armchair’s circularity.

With either Translation Armchair, you have an interesting (and responsible) use of materials to create an appealing product that can be used inside or out—a product whose form eschews the hard edges too often relied upon for modern design.
