It is extremely obvious that Headboards are in again but the question that would not leave my head is why? Is it due to the new and improved designs or due to the functionality they offer?

Even though most of you know what a headboard is i feel the need to resume it in a few words for those who do not. The headboard is a piece of furniture that attaches to the head of the bed, it can be used to retain pillows, provide and secure backing the the bed upon which you relax or just be the focus point of the room.

As all furniture pieces nowadays, the headboard is available in a wide range of fabric colors, textures and styles. Due to it’s natural properties of durability, leather is one of the top option when choosing headboard material.

Strong, secure and durable, headboards are designed to be easily fitted onto any bed. As the range of headboard styles and materials is so wide, the perfect headboard can almost certainly be found for any bedroom. However the option of having your headboard and bed made at the same time is appealing but you can also have just your headboard crafted to exact personal requirements and specifications.

Being all aware of the fact that the bedroom is the most important room in the home, it leads us to the conclusion that this is the room in your home that needs to be the most comfortable and aesthetically suited to the person using it.

Divan beds can come in the following sizes: small single, single, small double, double, kingsize and superking. Also they provide a divan bed called a zip and link. These beds offer all the same benefits as a kingsize or indeed a superking divan bed, but with the added bonus of being able to be split into two singles. The two single mattresses are held together with zips while the bases are joined together by linking bars at the head and foot of the base.

These are a great option for perhaps a guest room or even your own room, if you perhaps sometimes fancy having your own space, then unzip and push apart; perfect! You might also come across some that have two zip and link beds, the first is kingsize and the second is super kingsize. The supersize has the added bonus of underbed storage in the form of drawers.

Having storage options under your bed can be ideal. Perhaps it’s a perfect place to hide all your shoes, or your winter jumpers in the warmer months. Or you might be tight for storage in your room, so it then becomes a perfect choice as you are using space that would usually be occupied by dust.

An active imagination should be actively encouraged in your little ladies, and as long as they are not being too risqué, pretending to be famous is fun! To transform your daughter’s bedroom or playroom into an imagination universe is a great weekend project, and can be done for at very little expense.
Repainting is hardly necessary. For a little extra flair, you could paint a gold star on the door or buy a ready-made appliqué and add your little diva’s name. Talented folks may want to paint an actual “backstage” mural complete with camera men and equipment on one wall! Others can simply attach a few long flowing fabric swatches that flow from floor to ceiling. Attach the fabric to the top of the wall, leaving some big vertical folds in it so that the fabric appears to be a curtain. Attaching at the base of the wall is optional, when left unattached the curtains are more versatile and are able to billow when the “show” is on. However, younger children may be likely to play with them.
Place an inexpensive door mirror or even a few behind the material for a fun dance studio effect! You can install optional pull backs on each side (or just one side) to pull the make-shift curtain over and allow for your little diva to watch herself while she performs.
Lights, cameras, and action are all that’s needed now! Lights are probably going to be the most complicated and expensive part of the remodel. If you are inexperienced with electrical equipment, make sure you find someone who can adequately and safely install the new lights. Track lighting works best for this type of project, preferably Lights that can be adjusted in different directions. Shine a light or two toward the stage and place colored bulbs in them for a stage lighting effect.
Cameras can be built out of old shoeboxes. Paint them black and attach them in the corner of the wall aimed at the stage to “record” every precious moment. Let your daughter help, this could become a fun project for the both of you to do together.
Lastly, “build” the stage. The easiest, safest, and least expensive way to design a stage for your diva is to use large area rugs. Bamboo area rugs are a perfect choice for this project. Make sure to use slip-proof backing on the bamboo rug, even if there is already carpet flooring underneath, to allow for plenty of dance moves. Additionally, a couple of plush flower shaped flokati rugs, or star shaped yellow area rugs would be a great addition in front of the stage so the audience can comfortably enjoy the show!

If you have a small bedroom, it can be quite annoying as two of you are sharing a room that does not give either of you much space. Both of you have your own clothes and personal belongings that need storing, and you also need to fit a bed into the room. As you don’t want your relationship to become one long struggle over living space, you have to find ways to accommodate your furniture needs. After all, if you are happy in your bedroom, chances are that the rest of your relationship will also be good.

The first rule of living in a small bedroom is to minimize the clutter that you have. Moving into your new apartment is a great opportunity to get rid of a lot of your stuff. Throw out the clothes that you would never be seen dead in. What’s the point of hanging onto them? And what about the clothing that no longer fits you since you dieted radically? And you really don’t need to bring loads of extraneous items with you and store them in your bedroom either. Either find another place in the house to keep them, or leave them behind.

The most important furniture that you need in your room is a cupboard and a bed. To this you can also add some basic furnishings, including an area rug and a set of pretty curtains. If there is not enough room to fit enough cupboards, consider fitting a clothing rail and some shelves on one of the walls. Find a conveniently sized bed. When you do so, take extra care to record the measurements of the room, including the doorway, so that the bed can actually be brought into the bedroom and will not be too big to fit!

When choosing your furniture, you don’t need to purchase brand new items. As long as it is in good condition, you can buy second-hand furniture. Many gently used items are fine, especially if they have been reconditioned. In fact, you may find some very unusual or original furniture that could give your room a distinctive look. For example, a wooden Victorian cupboard, with a bed decorated with a lace bedspread, and a pretty floral area rug would give your room an elegant, Old World touch – at no major cost.

To make the room look slightly larger, you could also put a long mirror on one of the walls. This adds a feeling of space and will make your room feel a lot less crowded.

Hopefully, both of you will be happy with the layout of your bedroom, and the rest of your home will also be a pleasant place.

Living near an ocean will make the components of a nautical theme a lot easier to find, but even craft stores in landlocked regions typically carry some ocean-themed items.

Here are some ideas for easy oceanic decorations.

For a child’s bedroom, or for a really big impact, buy a fishing net at an athletic or outdoor sports store. Suspend the net from the ceiling, or hang against one wall. If used in a child’s room, a net like this makes a great place to put stuffed animals, balls or other toys. Revolving night lights that cast fish- or shell-shaped images on walls or ceiling are another good addition to a nautical theme in a child’s room. And don’t forget to add fish-shaped area rugs or floor coverings in ocean colors, such as blue rugs and green rugs.

A quick and easy way to update a room is with wallpaper borders. All kinds of nautical themes are available, from seascapes to seashells, seahorses to boats at sea. Decorators with some artistic ability may want to try stenciling seashells, fish or other aquatic creatures on door frames, walls or even lampshades with a stencil from a craft store.

Shell-shaped dishes can hold soap in bathroom or kitchen, or they can hold treats for guests in the living room. For the “wet” rooms, get mini soaps shaped like shells or liquid soap containers bearing shells, fish, boats or other nautical symbols.

For those who’d like to create their own room accessories, consider filling a clear glass bowl with some sand and seashells, both available from a craft store. Shells also make an excellent display inside a shadow box, particularly if you can find one that looks like driftwood found on a beach. Another way to use seashells is to glue them to picture frames or to create other wall art with them. This can make a great family project for summer. The shells can be attached with white glue or with a hot glue gun – under adult supervision, of course.

A spool lighthouse makes for an interesting craft. It is often used for Christmas decorations but it can also serve as a tabletop or shelf display. To make a spool lighthouse, you will need

• Empty thread cone spools
• Model car paints
• The spout from a bottle of liquid dish soap or a used water bottle
• A small piece of craft foam, cardboard or felt.
• If you’d like to use these are Christmas decorations, add a plastic Christmas flower or leaf.

Instructions:

• Paint stripes on the spools in any desired pattern. You can either use Christmas colors for holiday decorations, or you can use colors that match the décor of your home.
• Using model car paints, paint the bottle spout cap in any shade that matches the lighthouse.
• Paint the center of the cap bright yellow to represent the light in the lighthouse.
• Paint the bottom of the cap black, and then add small vertical lines. This represents the walkway around the lighthouse’s top. Other architectural features, such as doors and windows, also can be added.

Trace around the lighthouse bottom on “fun” foam, cardboard or felt to make a cushion for the lighthouse. Cut out the tracing and glue it to the bottom. If using the lighthouse as a Christmas decoration, now’s the time to add holiday flowers, leaves or other seasonal embellishments. Your nautical decoration is ready to spread its joy of the season.

Israel-based company Hollandia International subscribes to the latter philosophy: “Contrary to popular belief, our bodies are not designed to sleep on a completely flat surface. Most importantly, having our upper and lower body slightly elevated alleviates the pressure we often feel in our lower back.”

Hollandia International hired superstar designer Karim Rashid to create two different sleep environments. We could call them beds, but that would be underestimating their power and cache. These “beds” are more like stage sets, providing an all-encompassing sensual experience. Hollandia International offers sound advice: “Let’s stay in bed,” and Rashid’s designs do everything in their power to realize that good counsel. The Sphere Bed is an enveloping pod complete with a 32” color television, covered LED canopy-top lights, outside back vanity mirror, and champagne holder. It’s the new bachelor’s retreat (or bachelorette—let’s not be sexist)—a modern-day version of the swinger’s leopard-covered Murphy bed that pops out at just the right moment.

The bed features the Hollandia plush comfort, along with the company’s signature adjustability and massage—packaged in sumptuous fabric (custom-upholstered however your little heart desires). Rashid’s piece transforms the bed into something far greater: “The Sphere brings a whole new dimension to experiential bedroom living.”

SHH took on the Kensington House project with a commission to create a complete interiors scheme for the six storey, 1,114 sq m house. The new-build property is a contemporary take on a Georgian terrace house, set within a classic west London square. The property is comprised of a very generously proportioned reception room, large formal dining room, family room, cinema and pool room, all located on the lower 3 floors. The entire first floor is occupied by the master suite, with the remaining two floors taken up by 5 further bedrooms and en suite bathrooms.

The client’s brief was simple. The house had to suit the needs of an international couple with a large family. As for the look? ‘Cream, off-white and funky’.

The house is entered at upper ground level, which consists of a double volume entrance foyer, a free-floating staircase and the principal reception room. A centrally-located double door ushers visitors into the 66 sq m reception room. The front part of the room is to be used as the formal area and has been treated in a more prescribed manner, whilst the garden side of the room has a less formal feel. The garden is reached via the main staircase and is comprised of a passage leading into the family room at the back and the dining room at the front, both of which can be accessed through the centrally located internal kitchen. The family room is comfortable, warm and airy, decorated using soft creams and natural shades. The dining room, with it`s formal proportions, uses a minimalist Italian table and chairs from Minotti to great effect against the spectacular backdrop of a cross-combed polished plaster fire breast. The jewel in the room is the Hellbob light, designed by Ruhl Haagmans.

The high headboard of the Buonanotte Valentina bed features curved wooden slats—the edges of the slats containing some of the unbridled enthusiasm of the wood’s sensuous curves. Facing the bed head on, the wooden headboard appears rigid and flat; however, looking at it from any other angle reveals the S curvature of the bed’s headboard. The platform base too plays with a combination of rectilinear and contoured surfaces, from the straight spine hugging the floor to the rectangles with rounded edges that serve as the base in the front and back of the frame. The play here with aesthetic binaries can de dangerous: badly realized, this contradiction can be absurd. But the risk here is averted, the Buonanotte Valentina achieving a balance as precarious and daunting as a tightrope walker.

The bed can be further transformed with an optional covered headboard, wrapping the slats in leather—while still maintaining a wooden frame. It’s like a taut canvas stretched over a well-constructed scaffold, wherein the covering actually calls attention to what lies beneath. And what lies beneath, like everything else produced by Ceccotti, is masterfully built with that attention to detail we’ve come to expect of the Italians. The name tells much of what dreams you may have when sleeping in this bed—dreams foretelling a succession of good nights. If it were music, the Buonanotte Valentina would be reincarnated as the operatic notes of Offenbach’s Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffman—hauntingly yet serenely beautiful.
