The concept for the Cliff House was actually born from the living on the edge idea. Emma and David, the clients who requested a special, dangerous and challenging design. They came to the Modscape designers with the idea of building a house on an extreme parcel of land they already owned on the south-west coast of Victoria.
The innovative designers tought that it would be appealing and dangerous enough to build the house hanging on the cliff, rather than on top of the edge.
The house looks like a natural extension of the cliff, rather than an addition to the landscape, it blends in, creating a connection with the ocean.
Entry to the home is through a carport on the top floor, where a lift vertically connects you through each of the descending living spaces. Internally, the living spaces feature minimalistic furnishings to ensure that the transcendent views of the ocean and the unique spatial experience of the location remain the integral focal point of the design.
All in all, it’s a five storey home, hanging on a cliff, that should give at least a little bit of adrenaline.
