Polish artist Przemek (Calabarte) creates sculptural lamps made from gourds.
Description from Przemek (Calabarte):
The gourd is an annual tropical vine originating in Africa and Asia. Its dried, lignified fruits are used for various decorative as well as practical purposes.
My lamps are made from this unique fruit through a process of manual perforation and framing. Wholly natural materials and the highest quality of craftsmanship allow for unusual effects. In each interior they create a unique atmosphere, which makes it possible to enjoy light in more than just pragmatic terms.
As the shape of the fruit is determined by nature, and the framing created manually, each lamp is one of its kind.
Info about Standing Lamp
Lamp is made of gourd brought from Senegal.
More simply and fiat pattern is charted on a base of dodecahedron.
I also wanted by single lines of perforation to get more skarp light effects that will be diverging steadily inside the room.
Untypical, coherent form of lamp doesn’t have evident base but there is only one position that it should stand in.
Lamp has a hole that is lock by small magnets.
Thorns are made of oak wood, painted with natural oil, and finished with black waxed string.
Their length are 9cm and 6cm.
White carvings are deeper layer of white wood which allow some light to pass through it.
The thickness of wood in that places is also not the same so that made the effect of shading when it is shining.
The diameter of gourd is 20cm and height of lamp – 32,5cm.
The length of cable is 150cm.
An interesting lightning piece with which you can complete a room in the most perfect way. Not only the colors are wonderful but also the design is unique. Leaving aside the materials used which are also brought from Senegal, the whole idea if this lamp is appealing to me. I would like to see one live and test it, wouldn’t you?
