Did you ever think how it would be if you could rebuild a corner of nature which existed millions of years ago? This is the idea from which Nick Williams-Ellis started. He realized in 2006 a garden with which he participated at the design contest Chelsea Flower Show and won the silver medal. Important is not only the original idea but also the fact that he wanted to bring in the attention of the public the necessity to conservate zones and species of natural importance.
As well as using exotic plant material transported from the Sub Tropical Gardens at Abbotsbury, stone and fossil remains from the Purbeck quarries will also feature within this garden and will hint at the incredible environment that once characterised these shores some 150 million years ago.
The Loftcube Story : Imagine a place where your neighbours fly and windows are 360* wide, a place where you can work, relax.. and share life with your friends. Imagine the endless possibilities of living on a rooftop… Welcome to the LOFTCUBE, a living unit for passionate individuals.
The Loftcube project takes two issues into consideration: what could a temporary minimalistic domicile look like, to suit people of nomadic lifestyle, living for short period of time in large cities and dense urban areas, offering both sanctuary and social structure, and where might such temporary dwellings be built.
Zaya, a dynamic newly-formed Abu Dhabi-based real estate company has launched its first of many property ventures; Nurai, a spectacular private community of limited edition resort beach-front estates and water villas on a natural island off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
The design concept of the island stemmed from Zaya’s desire to provide residents with abundant pieces of land and ultimate privacy. Two strands of Water Villas extend into the ocean, and Nurai’s Beachfront Estates are integrated into the gently scoping landscape. A carpet of greenery unfolds across the island, with sweeping structures underneath to envelop residents in their own world of private luxury. Island feels untouched as majority of land is landscaped lush greenery as opposed to populated with buildings.
This intriguing piece of design of the Mirage Lamp is sure to attract the right kind of attention in your home. Cleverly designed to look like a normal table lamp through flat images on sheets of glass which layer up to form a 3D image. The light seems to radiate out from inside as if it were a normal lamp, but move to its side and you can see that it is nothing but sheets of glass!
After thousands of years of ceramic history you might think there isn’t anything significant left to try in the design of cups with handles. The fact that unusual mugs usually are awkward to use would reinforce this idea. However, after years of designing ceramics, David Pier realized that all conventional coffee cup designs were determined more by the manufacturing and design processes than by the needs of the coffee cup user. What does a perfect cylinder have to do with the shape of the human hands or lips? It is merely a simple shape that is easy to make on a lathe, turntable, or in a CAD program.
